Crochet Rose

by The Sunset Doctrine

fan club exclusive

lyrics

Digging through the treasures
In that old jewelry box
We were picking up the pieces
Of the things we thought we lost
And I still taste my tightened throat
And I still see those glassy stares
As every trinket in our hands
Seemed a weight too much to bare

Sifted and separated into nine equal piles
And dispersed amongst your daughters
And each grandchild’s child
But for all the tarnished brass
And every pearl before a clasp
There’s a century’s worth of memories
We hoped to God would last

But we know we’re only keeping them warm
Until we all meet up again
And I feel oh so honored
To be holding on to them
So I’ll hold on to you

Now we’re pacing the halls of that old tired house
Tidying up an empty bed
Still seeming warm just like you seem around
But it’s not sinking in and I’m afraid it never will
Look, here’s a picture of you circa ’45
With your love around your waist
And a glimmer in your eye
She'd say don’t pine at the past behind us
It’s the reason we’re all here

But we know we need to keep staying strong
Until we all meet up again
And I feel oh so privileged
To know you’ll never be too far from where I am
So for now we’ll keep you safe and warm
In the memories we keep
Because as long there’s breath in my lungs
I’ll be carrying you with me
So I’ll hold on to you

Oh, you passed us down a crochet rose
‘Cause you can’t carry it where you go
Oh, you passed us down a crochet rose
And every thread will guide you home

But we know we need to keep moving on
Until we all meet once more
But the hardest part of this all is closing the door
